The East Lyme Public Library is a community hub in East Lyme, Connecticut. Our library offers a wide range of resources, including books, eBooks, audiobooks, movies, magazines, a local history collection, a library of things, public computers, and meeting space. We are a member of the LION consortium, which gives patrons access to a vast shared collection. We offer many free services including curbside pick-up, Wi-Fi, notary services, and test proctoring. Our staff members are dedicated to providing excellent service to all.
The Children’s Department is a lively space with toys, wooden train sets, STEM bins, puppets, blocks, fidget toys, Magna-Tiles, huge stuffed animals, children’s game computers, and a wonderful collection of books for babies through tweens. In addition to books and other reading materials, we circulate nature backpacks, puzzles, and storybook kits.
The East Lyme Public Library offers exciting free programs for babies, children, tweens, teens, and adults. Music concerts, magic shows, author visits, art workshops, book discussion groups, hands-on STEM workshops, career and college prep informational sessions for high school students and their families, and reading to therapy animals are some of our most popular offerings.
The first library, originally called the “Niantic Library and Reading Room Association,” started in 1888. In 1897 the library was formally incorporated as “The Niantic Library Association” by the State of Connecticut. The library moved a few times until a permanent structure was built in 1920 on Main Street. In 1966 a wing was added, and in 1979 another addition was added. In 1990 the library moved into the new Community Center complex where we are located today.
The Plainville Public Library is located in Plainville's town center serving a close-knit community of 17,500 residents. Our historic building originally opened in 1931, and has since been expanded multiple times, including an ongoing renovation to designate a new space for teens. We can be found on social media @PlainvilleLibrary.
